I spent many a day in my childhood as Han Solo. No, not the leather outfit, but pretending to be the space saving, evil empire fighting, girl getting (well trying anyway), hero of the Star Wars films. I am not sure if most of my friends enjoyed the game as much as me because they would always have to be R2-D2, C-3PO or Chewbacca. Any girl in the game was obviously Princess Leia, and it always depended on her whether Han Solo was saving the girl or fighting Darth Vader.
Imagine my geekness when I came across a story that told of the chance to actually be Han Solo in my very own carbon freezing adventure! On May 18, at Disney Hollywood Studios, you can sign up for the ‘Carbon Freeze Me’ package. You will receive a custom action figure as evidence of your Star Wars moment. How cool is that?
The experience takes around 30 minutes and the figure will be shipped to your home four weeks later. Yes, those four weeks will be excruciatingly painful and long, but I am sure the wait will be worth it. To take part in this childhood dream, it will cost you $100, and you will step into the carbon freezing chamber just like Han Solo. The scene is taken from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back when Jabba the Hutt captures heroes Han Solo and Princess Leia.
The actual process uses 3D printing technology and a host of cameras that map out the exact facial expression you want to show. For extra Star Wars realism, you could even tell your other half that you love him or her like Han Solo did to Princess Leia before he went into the chamber. Personally, I would make room in my home for a life size version, but the final figure is an 8-inch figurine of you frozen in carbonite. You also get a light-up wristband with the words ‘Carbon Freeze Me’ on the side. I can already feel the young boy in me ready for another Star Wars adventure, so who is with me and wants to be Chewbacca, or preferably, Princess Leia?
