I’ve often said that out of all the popular superheroes we know and love, Batman is my favorite. He’s so strong, mysterious and misunderstood. There is a vulnerable and injured side to Batman that we don’t often get to see with the other superheroes. One thing I didn’t realize until I started looking into it today is how much Batman and everything Batman-related has evolved and changed throughout the years. I suppose any character that’s been around for over 70 years has to change and evolve to stay relevant and current, but Batman has changed a lot. You can even see these changes when you look at the evolution of the bat logo.
When I’ve seen the bat logo change each time over the years, it’s always seemed like a subtle change at that moment. But when you look at all the bat logos from 1940 through 2012 on one image like this, you can really see how dramatic some of the changes have been. For some reason, I like the bat logos from the ‘90s the best, although all of them bring back special memories. I still have some of the comic books that were printed decades before I was born, and the original bat logo in those comics seems so retro now. I wonder if anyone ever predicted the rise of Batman’s iconic superhero status back then.
If you want to see more Batman evolution, you can check out All The Batmobiles and All The Bat-Suits too. I suppose the next time we’ll get to see Batman on the big screen will be in Justice America which begins shooting in 2013 and will be released in the summer of 2015. It will feature Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and more. You can purchase this bat logo chart on Calm The Ham.
