I read this week that “getting old isn’t for sissies,” and that’s so true. We all think we are invincible when we are teenagers, but by the time we reach our mid-thirties, we start to realize that we should probably pay attention to things we eat and how much we exercise, or at least it was that way for me. We all age, so it’s really just part of life. As the saying goes, let the lines in your smile tell the story of your happy life, or something like that.
Even superheroes age, which isn’t something we think about very much. We watch the cartoons and the movies year after year, but the superheroes we grew up with must be getting old by now, I mean, it feels like they’ve been around forever.
Captain America knows this all to well. These photographs, which show him getting old, are kinda sad and lonely. He’s not even that old in these pics, but he definitely looks defeated. These pictures are part of Paul Armstrong‘s collection entitled Everyday Occurrences Of An Aging Superhero. It’s very unglamorous, unattractive and quite funny.
Of the first picture you see below (Captain America eating breakfast), Paul wrote, “Breakfast is a lonely time for Captain America. Up early. Awaiting that call. But usually it never comes and he eats his bran flakes alone in the dark.” In these pictures he doesn’t look like he’d be capable of fighting crime. Actually, he seems like he’s the one who might need some help. It’s okay Captain America. Everyone ages. You are getting old; take it like a man. It’s nothing to get upset over.
