Screw Art: Stunning Approach To Making Portraits

I am really a sucker for odd art it seems. I tend to get moderately excited about even when getting a peek at the real Mona Lisa, but when I suddenly come across something with a little more… well, geek in it, I turn into a true art fan. It’s weird really if you ask me. I always tend to enjoy looking at the most insane art as well. The art I tend to like is usually something that hasn’t been seen before. I like the stuff that really catches your eye at the very moment you get a glimpse of it. When that happens, there is simply no avoiding the fact that you want to know more about it.

I managed to stumble over something just like that today, or rather this morning of I should be entirely honest. It’s an art form that at least I haven’t seen before, and it really got me excited to find out more. I found a boatload of pieces from the same artist. The dedicated artist is of course the unbelievably talented Andrew Meyers. A lot of artists use screws in order to hang their art neatly on a wall, but that’s not even close to what Andrew does with screws.

He uses them to actually create his art. With a careful plan, he uses the light of the room, 10,000 screws and an electric screwdriver to nail his art piece directly on the wall in front of him. It’s amazing how much realism he manages to get into the images just using some old screws. The light does pretty much all the shading while the depth of the drilling makes the whole thing come alive in a thrilling and beautiful way. I can imagine that changing the light source to another location would cause some rather interesting effects. It would be cool to have a light switch to toggle the light from different angles and locations to create some sort of animation. It would create an illusion if you will, and maybe get the art on the wall to move. Perhaps that’s the next step of it all. Still, I don’t think I have ever seen anything like this before and I am quite impressed, if not entirely flabbergasted by the awesomeness of this whole thing.
