I love felt. I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s a great material. It’s got the yin and the yang. It’s soft, yet tough. It can be colorful or dull. It’s so versatile you can wear it in the form of socks or clean your car with it. I would probably drape myself in felt if it were socially acceptable, okay, maybe not.
There are two new felt designs that have been circulating the Internet for the past day or so that I just have to share with you. They are both innovative and fun, and since they are made of felt, I want them.
The first one is this needle felted E.T. that is so cute, I just wanna squeeze him till his eyeballs pop off. Ray Cannon from Cast Away created this little bundle of cuteness. I have no idea how he was able to capture so much emotion, humility, curiosity and happiness in this little felted E.T., but he did, and I think it’s simply brilliant! What’s even more amazing is that Ray has only been needle felting for a year. Wow, kudos!
If you would like to learn more about how to needle felt, you can watch this video that explains the technique well.
The second felt design I would like to share with you today is a felt mouse. How cool is it to see a mouse made out of something other than the nasty, cheap material we usually see? Not only is it very pretty to look at, but I bet it’s cozy to use too.
This fabulous little functioning felt design is created by designer Joey Roth. He added a little teak and aluminum, but it’s made entirely from all natural materials. He was inspired to create this by the mouse’s intimate contact with the skin on our hand and fingers. Love it!
