The Unofficial Star Wars Family Portraits

We’ve written about so many talented artists on Bit Rebels that sometimes it’s hard to believe there are more out there. The truth is, the world is filled with creative people who like to showcase their talent. I’m grateful that those of us that aren’t very artistic get to benefit from that.

This artist, Steven Quinn, is one of those people that I’ve never heard of until today, and when I visited his website, I was blown away. There are so many colorful, abstract, fun and creative paintings, designs, illustrations, photographs, etc… There is visual inspiration overflowing there.

These paintings below were particularly interesting to me. We all know how boring it is to go to a professional photographer and have family portraits made. As a matter of fact, after my son turned five, I stopped putting him through that experience. It seems unnatural and over-posed. To me, it’s so much more fun to just take candid photos of life as it happens. So, it was interesting and bizarre to see these paintings created by Steven Quinn. They are the unofficial Star Wars family portraits.

When I was growing up, in my family, I remember family portrait day being a time when we were forced to wear uncomfortable clothes and plaster a fake smile on our faces. The photographers always used very bright lights that shined on us, right in our faces. I remember it being so hot. These Star Wars family portraits make me laugh because they capture that same essence. Everyone is wearing clothes they probably wouldn’t normally wear, they look uncomfortable and bored, and like they wish they were somewhere else.  You can view more of this collection on Steven’s Flickr page.  Classic!
