Creative Cartoonist Draws & Live Tweets During NYC Marathon

When I ran the Peachtree Road Race (one of the largest 10K races in the world) in 2009, I saw all kinds of crazy stuff along the way. It was the most fun I’ve ever had while exercising. I saw a couple getting married while running (their bridesmaids and groomsmen were also running), I saw a priest throwing holy water on everyone while he was running, and I saw dozens of people dressed up in the wildest cosplay costumes and body paint you’ve ever seen, which they all wore while running.

One thing I know would have been a blast to see was New York Times cartoonist Christoph Niemann live tweeting his spontaneous drawings while he was running. That’s exactly what he did when he ran the New York City Marathon this past weekend. If you are not used to jogging, you may wonder how someone could draw and tweet while running. Well, let me just say that once you get used to it, you can do pretty much anything while running, just so long as you keep breathing.

At the beginning of the race he was tweeting from @abstractsunday, but by the end of the 26 miles, he had to create a new Twitter account (because he got put in Twitter jail I suppose), and his tweets continued at @abstractsunday1. Wow, he even set up a new Twitter account during the marathon. I’m so impressed! Here is a sampling of his witty, fun and always clever cartoons which he drew and tweeted while running the race.
