Mousilli’s contributions to community advocacy began with his work at Volunteer Legal Services, where he provided legal aid to underserved populations. His efforts were recognized with the Judge Suzanne Covington Pro Bono Award, a distinction that honors attorneys demonstrating exceptional commitment to access to justice.

For Mousilli, providing free legal support is not charity, it’s a professional obligation.

“The law is a tool and it must be accessible to those who need it most,” Mousilli has said. “Pro bono work isn’t an extracurricular; it’s part of the job.”

Championing Civil Rights And Representation

Mousilli’s civic engagement extends into leadership roles with major civil rights organizations, including the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) and the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR). Through these affiliations, he has supported legal reforms, spoken out against discrimination, and advocated for equity in both policy and practice.

His support of the Arab Film Festival and the Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI) illustrates another aspect of his advocacy, using art and culture to challenge bias and foster empathy. By blending legal advocacy with storytelling and cultural representation, Mousilli helps advance broader efforts toward inclusion.

Driving Change Through Legal Education

An accomplished educator as well as a practitioner, Mousilli is a Fulbright award recipient from the U.S. Department of State and has taught law and entrepreneurship in Ukraine, Colombia, Türkiye, and the United States.

His international teaching work includes courses on IP strategy, patent commercialization, and software licensing, delivered in partnership with leading Ukrainian institutions such as the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Mousilli continued supporting Ukrainian startups remotely, even helping prosecute a patent for water ionization technology developed in an active war zone.

His legal aid to Ukrainian entrepreneurs underscores how technology lawyers can provide stability in chaotic environments, not just through capital but through counsel.

Mousilli also serves as a guest lecturer at the University of Texas School of Law, where he emphasizes the practical dimensions of law. His focus is on equipping students with real-world insight, moving beyond theory to the responsibilities lawyers carry in complex, real-life situations.

Promoting Diversity In The Legal Profession

Mousilli has made the diversification of the legal field a central focus of his public service. Statistics from the American Bar Association show persistent disparities: as of 2020, only 5% of U.S. attorneys identified as African American, and another 5% as Hispanic or Latino.

Mousilli actively addresses these imbalances through mentorship programs, board leadership, and policy advocacy.

At the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Austin Chapter, where he served as President-Elect, Mousilli worked to make the profession more inclusive and collaborative. His leadership helped shape programs that support corporate attorneys while fostering diverse voices within legal departments.

“When you create more pathways for underrepresented groups to enter the profession, you’re not just correcting imbalance, you’re improving the quality of legal insight and leadership,” he notes.
