I just love old people. They are so cute and full of wisdom. When I think about all the stories my grandmother told me before she died, it makes me smile. I wish I could sit with her again and listen to her talk about how her parents couldn’t afford to raise her during the war, so they put her in an orphanage. When she turned eighteen, she married my grandfather who also grew up in that orphanage. The things they endured make our lives look so luxurious, even on a bad day.
I’ve written lots of articles about old people. My favorite ones are the pictures of old people in love and the video of this grandma trying Pop Rocks for the first time. Today I’d like to share with you some more incredible photography. These pictures were taken by Karsten Thormaehlen, a well-known German photographer.
In this project, Happy At One Hundred, Karsten took pictures of people who were all over 100 years old. These are absolutely stunning to me, and I love how much emotion you can see in their faces. Each one of these facial lines (I don’t like the word wrinkles) represents a special memory and life adventure I’m sure. If we stop fighting it for just a moment, it’s easy to see that aging is really a beautiful thing.
