How To Clean Your Jewelry So It Sparkles

There is something magical about precious metals. The way gold catches and reflects sunlight, or how diamonds refract light into the rainbow colors. It’s natural that when you put on a piece of jewelry, you want it to shine. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

Like anything else that we keep around the home, Jewelry needs to be regularly cleaned if you want it to shine. There are many different ways to clean your jewelry. In this article, we’ll cover some of the best ways to make your jewelry shine.

Ultrasonic Cleaners

With an ultrasonic cleaner, you place your jewelry in a machine filled with an ultrasonic cleaning solution. The cleaner uses ultrasound to agitate the object in the liquid. When turned on, the liquid vibrates against the surface of your jewelry, just like a cloth would when you rub it against an object. As the water rubs against the surface of the jewelry, it removes the dirt and grime.

An ultrasonic cleaner has a cleaning cycle of roughly 4-6 minutes. At the end of the cleaning cycle, the jewelry comes out of the liquid sparkling. Unlike some other forms of cleaning, the great thing about this method is that the ultrasound does not damage jewelry.

There are few more effective ways to clean your jewelry than a good ultrasonic cleaner. In fact, if you went to a jewelry store and asked them to clean your jewelry, I almost guarantee they’d use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Polish Your Jewelry

Polishing is one of the oldest and most common methods of cleaning. With a cloth, you slowly and deliberately scrub your jewelry with a soft piece of polishing cloth. As you rub the polishing cloth against the metal, you slowly remove the dirt and grime collected on your jewelry.

You can use a polish to help clean your jewelry. Most polishes contain a light solvent that helps dissolve the dirt that has collected on your jewelry. Polishing jewelry is effective, but it’s time-consuming. It can take several minutes to polish an object before it’s clean.

Polishing jewelry is tricky with small objects. Particularly small and delicate objects, which could break if you put too much pressure on them. It’s a lot easier to polish larger objects that are less fragile—for example, silver tableware.

Use A Toothbrush For Small Objects

Rather surprisingly, one of the best objects for cleaning your jewelry is a soft bristle toothbrush. A soft bristle toothbrush is a good tool for cleaning rings and smaller pieces of jewelry. The toothbrush can get into those small corners, particularly around where your stone is set.

Simply soak your jewels in warm water with some soap, and give your jewelry a light scrub. When you have finished cleaning your jewelry, take it out of the water and buff it gently with a polishing cloth.

While a toothbrush is effective at cleaning smaller objects, you still need to be careful. The bristles of a toothbrush can scratch the surface of your jewelry and might even damage fine metalwork.
