As designers, artists and even writers, we are often confronted with the question, “How do you improve your creative thinking?” Creativity is very important if you are in the design or writing field, but it is also important for everyone who is not in those fields.
Being creative is a gift. It is also something that can be honed or discovered. I am just grateful that we had programs available to us when I was just starting my career in advertising. These programs helped us solve problems, think out of the box, collaborate with others, think of concepts and ideas, etc…
Creativity is a mental process involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the existing ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight. We all face challenges in our day to day dealings whether personal or professional and creative thinking definitely helps us overcome these challenges. Some people are blessed with being able to think creatively while others have to hone it in. Here is a video that I hope can help. It offers some very practical techniques to follow, and it talks about the following:
1. Everyone is Creative
2. The Left and Right Brain
3. Speed of Thought
4. Originality of Thought
5. Flexibility of Thought
6. Imagination and Association
