Tech Germs: Our Gadgets Are Disgustingly Dirty [Infographic]

When I saw an article on Mashable yesterday called 16% of Cellphones Have Poop On Them, I knew I had to check it out. Sure enough, as I expected, it was so nasty I almost threw up in my mouth a little. I’ve mentioned on Bit Rebels many times before that I’m a Germaphobe. I wash my hands a ridiculous number of times each day, and my hand sanitizer is almost always within reach.

How on earth could our phones be so full of germs? According to this infographic created by Keeping It Kleen, our phone aren’t our only germ filled gadgets. Our keyboards have about 60 times more germs than a toilet seat. After reading these facts, I will always think twice before touching a television remote control in a hotel room. Gross. I’m glad they pointed out not to lick your remote control to clean it. Some people would probably do that you know. After all, if you really want to get your gross on, check out this video of a guy on the NYC subway who cleaned his shoes by licking them all nice and clean.

Someone over at the New York Times apparently knows what’s up with this. They featured an article in 2005 about how many people don’t wash their hands after using the bathroom. They followed that up with another article in 2010 after sending a team of sneaky spies into public restrooms for research. They found that even though most people claim to wash their hands after they use the restroom, many don’t actually do it. To all you nasty ass people out there, wash your freaking hands! And don’t worry, I won’t ever ask if I can borrow your phone.
