Umbrella Holder Incorporated Into Our Car Design Makes A Lot Of Sense

We’ve had a lot of rain while tropical storm Andrea zips up the east coast of the United States. After getting in and out of my car a dozen times yesterday while trying to manage a wet, drippy umbrella, it made me think there must be a better way. Does it really make sense that we should have to remember to carry an umbrella with us every time it rains? Wouldn’t it make more sense if there was a sophisticated umbrella holder built into our car’s design?

It sounds so logical and simple, yet I’ve never seen such a car design. The closest I’ve ever been to having an umbrella holder in my car is tossing my umbrella on the floorboard. Then I read an article on core77 that asked the question, Why Aren’t Umbrellas Better Integrated With Cars? It’s a very good question, and now that I think about it, it seems like an obvious car design feature.

After reading that post, I learned that some cars already have this feature (but none that I’ve ever seen). You can see some pictures below. While a few cars have what they call an ‘umbrella holder,’ there is one car that takes this concept even further. The new 1.2 million dollar Rolls Royce Phantom Luxury Coupe not only has an umbrella holder, but the holder itself will dry the umbrella. In other words, you can close up your umbrella and put it in there without worrying that it’s too wet. It will dry just fine, automatically.

Now I just have to figure out how to get an umbrella holder built into my next car, which I can assure you won’t be a Rolls Royce. Schlepping around a wet umbrella all day while going from the car into the house into the car again is for the birds.
