I have a confession to make. I hate shopping. I know it’s strange since many women love to go to the mall, but not me. I live in a big city (Atlanta). To me, the driving, parking, traffic and crowds are just not worth it. Like a lot of Americans, I do most of my shopping online.
However, there is one type of shopping that is different than all the rest. It’s the type of shopping that I really, really enjoy. My friend @AskAaronLee tease me about it. I love to go tweet shopping!
Have you ever heard of tweet shopping? It’s so much better than traditional shopping! I’ve gotten in the habit of going tweet shopping almost every day, and it always puts a smile on my face. You may have gone tweet shopping before and not even realized it. It’s definitely a new hobby of mine. If you enjoy spending time on Twitter, I highly recommend trying it for yourself!
Tweet shopping has many benefits! Here are just a few:
1. Tweet shopping is a blast
2. The tweets you choose are free
3. You will start to build a Twitter reputation for providing good content
4. You will share the love by becoming a frequent retweeter
5. You will expand your own knowledge even more
6. You will make new friends
If you would like to join me in this fun hobby, just follow these simple steps!
Step 1:
Determine exactly where you would like to go shopping for your tweets. This means making a short list of Twitter friends that you think have the kind of content you would like to pass on to your followers.
Step 2:
About once a week, or however often is right for you, visit those Twitter pages and carefully scroll through the tweets. I usually go back about two days in that person’s tweets.
Step 3:
When you see a tweet that interests you, immediately “favorite” it. If you are on the web, you favorite a tweet by clicking on the star to the far right-hand side of the tweet. Once that star turns yellow, you have favorited it.
Just to give you an idea, I will usually favorite 3-5 tweets off of any given Twitter page where I am tweet shopping. Now when you go to your own page, you will see those tweets show up in your favorites column.
Step 4:
Now, over the next day or so, when you get in the mood to tweet some really good content, or an inspirational quote, or whatever you like, simply go to your favorites, choose one of the tweets you shopped for and RT it! It is as simple as that!
In Conclusion…
Most likely, there will be a whole different audience for that tweet than when it was originally sent. And, if you’ve shopped carefully and chosen a good tweet, you will probably get a nice little handful of RTs, or at least that is what I’ve experienced.
Can you open your mind to see how much fun you could have doing this? It’s so obviously simple! One of the key points here is to strategically use your Twitter favorites to save tweets until you decide to refer back to them later.
So for me, forget the mall, forget looking for a parking space and fighting the crowds. I’ve found a much better way to get my shopping fix. I love to go tweet shopping, and I hope you will try it one day too!
I typically shop for tweets on these tweeps pages: @AskAaronLee, @mistygirlph, @dudeman718, @LoriMoreno, @paul_steele, and everyone’s favorite belly dancer, @SuuperG, just to name a few.
