Whether you play Facebook games or not, I’m sure you are familiar with them. I prefer smartphone games to Facebook games, but I still get notifications about them constantly. Obviously they are profitable, but do you know how profitable? When I learned that Candy Crush rakes in $850,000 per day, I knew I had to share these stats with you. When Facebook games become popular, they also become insanely profitable.
Here’s another crazy stat – 12% of Facebook’s revenue comes from Zynga. After Facebook opened development to third-party developers in 2004, it became the platform for 14,000 apps within the first 8 months. Along with all of these new apps came a new way of interacting with friends and peers called social gaming. If you aren’t sure what social gaming is all about, just click on one of the notifications that reads something like “Your friend Amy has invited you to play Farmville 2.” But beware…once you click on that link to get started, you might never make it back to the real world.
Since 1 out of every 4 Facebook users plays Facebook games, it should come as no surprise that they are as profitable as they are. When you look a little deeper, the stats become even more interesting. For example, even though Candy Crush may bring in $850,000 per day, less than 70% of its users have ever purchased anything. I suppose it’s just the serious gamers who finance it all for everyone else.
The power of Facebook has been obvious for quite a while now, but who knew it had enough influence to change the way we look at gaming too. This infographic called Facebook Games: You Know You’re Addicted (by bestaccountingdegrees.net) sums it up nicely. It kinda makes you wonder how far this craze might go…
