The new iPhone 16 has been leaked and there are reportedly a ton of new features and options that will be baked into the latest release. Let’s take a look at what we already know, and shed some light on what’s happening next.
One of the most talked-about aspects of the iPhone 16 is its advanced hardware upgrades.
According to early reports, the iPhone 16 will reportedly feature the new A17 chip. This chip was initially used in the Pro models of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15, as it’s designed to handle more tasks at once and allow for smoother functioning and superior battery life.
However, there are also indications that an upgrade could be in store for the iPhone 16. To understand why, let’s backtrack a bit. When the Pro models for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 were released, they used A16 Bionic and A17 Pro, respectively.
The non-Pro versions used the A15 Bionic and A16 Bionic, respectively. This change allowed Apple to create Pro Models with a more powerful chip than the non-Pro versions, without needing to design multiple tiers of chips each year.
“If that continues for the iPhone 16, it is likely that the A17 Pro chip will be reused for the iPhone 16 while the iPhone 16 Pro line will move to the A18 chip,” Apple Insider explains. “There have also been rumors that the A18 will be used across the board.”
But regardless of what the iPhone 16 gets, there’s going to be a significant improvement in the chip technology. The A17 is so much more powerful than the A16 – able to handle the generative AI work that the new phone should be built to perform. (For perspective, the A16 can handle roughly 17 trillion operations per second, while the A17 Pro version can handle 35 trillion – more than 2X the power.)
With that kind of technology, it’s no wonder iPhone 16 cases are seeing major improvements in technology and features. You have to protect the investment!
While the new A17 (or A18) chip is what everyone wants to talk about, other early reports point to a myriad of other upgrades and features. This may include:
Everyone is on their own phone upgrade “plan.” Some people hang onto their same phone for five or six years, while other people swap out their current device for an upgraded one as soon as the new release comes out. But regardless of your approach, the iPhone 16 is definitely a version that you should consider upgrading to, once released. Between the features and technology, it could be Apple’s most powerful phone yet.
