Coloring Crayon Carvings Look Just Like This Company’s Employees

There are a lot of different ways companies celebrate the addition of new employees, but this is the most creative one I’ve seen yet. Crayon carvings (the coloring crayons you used as a child) have become a popular way to create a mini-sculpture. The first time I saw this type of creativity was in the 2009 U.S. Cellular commercial. Now it’s more common, and a lot of people seem to be inspired by crayons.

You can see some examples by checking out these Star Wars Carvings and these Bride & Groom Carvings (which look like the real bride and groom). Coloring crayons used as a carving material make me smile every time I see them.

Ad agency Red Tettemer + Partners (RT+P) hired 16 new employees over the past several months. To celebrate the new editions to their family, their creative director (Steve Thompson) carved a crayon that looks just like each person. Steve Red, the chief creative officer, said, “When you have a crayon-carver in your midst, you use every opportunity to harness that creativity.”

What a great idea, and a unique way to make some special memories. This reminds me a little of the company who made custom 3D Printed Pez Dispensers that looked like each one of their 32 employees. They gave them out as a gift to each person. As RT+P continues to add new people to their team, they are committed to celebrating the additions with a fun twist. I am looking forward to seeing what they do next time. The video below shows how these coloring crayons were carved.

If you were going to be carved in a crayon, what color crayon would you want it to be? I think I would choose ‘sienna’ only because I’ve always thought that was a neat name for a crayon. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be called sienna?
