Cerealism Art: Extraordinary Realism According To Breakfast Cereal

For some oddly wonderful reason, breakfast cereal seems to inspire a lot of artists and photographers. I suppose it makes sense. You wake up in the morning, you reach for the box of cereal, and suddenly you start to mentally plan your day while looking at all the colors and shapes floating in your bowl of milk. This particular project, called Cerealism, is an extraordinary combination of individual cereal pieces and photography. When you look at some of these photographs, I bet you wouldn’t even realize you were looking at breakfast cereal if I didn’t tell you. I’ve never seen anything like this before.

This is the art of Ernie Button who was inspired by cereal not while eating it, but while looking at the boxes in the cereal aisle of the grocery store. He uses different colored shapes, textures and sizes to create these pictures, which he takes in his home photography studio. He realized as he got older than instead of eating the sugary breakfast cereal, he could use it to create artwork.

If you look below, you will probably recognize most of the breakfast cereals he used. He created the pictures for this collection with Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Shredded Wheat, Cheerios, Raisin Bran and many others. My favorite one is definitely the Cat in the Hat, which is simply one cereal piece. How long does it take to create a breakfast cereal project like this? I don’t know, but Ernie has been working on his for years. That’s true dedication and inspiration. Who knew there could be so much hiding inside that box of cereal?
