Eat Your Clothes: Edible Fabric Made From Fruits & Vegetables

I know this concept may sound strange at first, but when you see the pictures below, you might change your mind. I never thought fabric made from dehydrated fruits, vegetables and herbs could look so elegant and beautiful. The question is, would you actually eat them? They remind me of a big fruit-roll up, which by the way looks and feels disgusting but tastes like sugar heaven.

It’s all a very interesting combination of food and textiles. Some of the intense colors are achieved by mixing the foods with juice colored vegan gelatin. One of the images below features onions, which were colored with red wine. The bright red design below is a necklace created from blackberries. The pink dress is a wedding dress made from rhubarb paper. As you see, this collection even includes a pair of gloves.

This whole concept was created by Eric Meursing and Marjolein Wintjes who own De Culinaire Werkplaats. They said, “Food equals fashion. What you eat and what you wear reveals who you are or want to be. Every meal consists of choices which affect people, animals and the environment. The collection is part call to eat more greens and part commentary on the ephemeral nature of fashion.” Wow, these look very delicate and fragile, but I’d wear one! I probably wouldn’t eat it though. I’m more of a ribeye steak and chicken wings kind of girl.
