Let’s just say you want to make lasagna tonight. Instead of reaching for one of your traditional cookbooks, you decide you want to shake things up a little bit. How would you like to use this creative cookbook? It’s the world’s first edible cookbook that you can read, follow the directions, and when you are done putting your recipe together, you can cook it and eat it. That’s efficient, isn’t it? The only problem is, you won’t be able to ever refer to the recipe again since you ate the pages it was created on.
This is called “The Real Cookbook,” and it was created by a design studio in Germany called Korefe. Each page of directions for this lasagna recipe are written (or etched) into sheets of fresh pasta which are assembled together to look like a cookbook. As you turn each page and follow the directions, you are in essence adding a layer to your lasagna. The cookbook itself plays a key role in the recipe since it provides the main pasta ingredient in the lasagna itself.
I wish I could tell you that this is available to purchase since it would make such a fun gift for the foodie in your life, but it’s not. It was created as a special project for Gerstenberg publishing company. What a fun idea! I’m trying to think of other recipes that this same method could be used on. I can envision a recipe being inscribed on flat bread, the top of a pizza and other foods that have a lot of surface space. What a creative idea!
