Elegant Lamps Created From Recycled Juice Boxes

Tetra Pak is a company originating in Sweden that makes boxes (called Tetraboxes) in which food and mostly drinks are packaged in. Here in the States, we call those packages “juice boxes,” although there are a lot more than just juice drinks packaged in those containers.

On his blog, Ed Chew, a designer from Malaysia, describes the popularity of Tetrabox drinks in Malaysia being very similar to how bottled water is here in the States. Everyone likes to buy them and drink them, yet it’s bad for the environment. Just as we don’t think about where all those empty plastic water bottles go, he says Malaysians don’t give much regard to those empty drink boxes.

He’s come up with a way to keep some of those Tetraboxes from ending up in his country’s landfills. His brilliant way of recycling them results in these absolutely fabulous and elegant lamps that you would never guess were created from empty juice boxes! Ed says, “This recycled lamp is made up of empty Tetra Brik boxes which are cut into strips. The strips are then folded to form hexagon and pentagon modules. No glue or any kind of adhesive media is required for the folding process.” You can view more pictures on Ed Chew.
