Eyelid Art: Nature & Movie Scenes Created On Eyelids

If I told you I was going to share with you some creative art involving movie scenes from the Lion King and Little Mermaid, you wouldn’t be very impressed, right? What if I told you the artist created those scenes on her own eyelids, would that get your attention? Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy!

I tried to put some simple fake eyelashes on my eyes a month ago, and all I ended up with was a gooey mess. I can’t even imagine creating artistic artwork on an eyelid, which is why I’m writing about it. Katie Alves is only twenty-one years old. When she’s not working at her graphic design job, she likes to buy makeup at the local drugstore and go to town on her eyelids in her bathroom.

She uses a small pin to get the details just right. Before you ask, Katie confirms on her tumblr that these images are not photoshopped. She also says that her eyebrows are high like this because she has them raised up to smooth out the eyelid. Katie has only been using her eyelids as a canvas since October of 2010. She also creates her Disney and nature inspired artwork on lips and other areas of the face. Each design takes an hour or two to complete. She says it can be hard sometimes since she’s “blind” without her glasses on. After she creates her designed eyelid, she usually takes a picture and then washes it off.

I have a few questions about this. What happens when you blink? Does it ever mess up? What if your eye waters or you cry during the process? Do you have to start over? What does it look like with your eye open? Does it hurt to hold one eye open and one eye closed for such a long time in order to finish a design? Do you use a magnified mirror? I could go on… I wonder if Katie is inspired by Kandee Johnson. I see a little hint of that in her work. I think I might be a little too much of a geek girl and not quite enough of a girly girl to completely understand this eyelid panorama art, but one thing is for sure, it’s definitely creative and original! You can learn more about Katie on deviantART.
