Geek Chic: The Geekiest Furniture Ever Made

I’ve always kind of wanted to live in Seattle. I’ve got a friend from the city, and she says that as geek culture’s concerned, it’s among the central cores of the United States. With that in mind, it’s really no surprise to me that the business I’m profiling is based there. They’re known as Geek Chic, and they design furniture. That sounds kind of boring at first, until you realize the purpose their furniture’s designed for.

Gaming, pure and simple.

They’ve got something to suit every gamer’s tastes, from the refined and minimalist Portal to the larger-than-life Sultan. The table that makes me drool the most has to be the Locus- which Geek Chic bills as a “multitouch enabled gaming surface,” boasting that it utilizes technology from a company known as Mesa Mundi.

With the right applications, the possibilities are positively endless. Already, my mind is running through how perfect it’d be for my D&D games, and how I could run things so much more efficiently online, and how they’d let me customize it so even the physical design would be perfect, and…

Yeah, I’m geeking out a bit.

Of course, the chances that I’ll be picking up one of these any time in the near future is pretty slim. Beautiful designs like these don’t come cheap- Their tables are usually around $1,000 to $8,500. Clearly, these are luxury items. Admittedly, I have no idea how much high-grade furniture is supposed to cost- so for all I know, they could be very reasonably priced. Still, something tells me they’re a little pricier than your average dining room centerpiece.

That said…look at them and tell me you don’t want one in your home.

“I write for the same reason I breathe, because if I didn’t, I would die.”- (Isaac Asimov) Few quotes describe Nick as well as that one. A writer and geek from the day he was born, Nick’s been writing since he was old enough to hold a pen and gaming for even longer. His love of the written word is only matched by his love of gaming and technology. When he’s not writing, he spends his time gaming, with friends, or zoning in on the latest trends in the industry.
