The Infinity Spiral Staircase That Goes Nowhere

I’m a huge fan of spiral staircases, and I’ve always said that my dream house would have an interior spiral staircase on each end, and another one outside leading up to the roof (for sunbathing). There is just something dreamy about a spiral staircase, and it almost feels like you’re taking a ride when you go up and down them. This design below is an infinity spiral staircase which goes nowhere. It’s a twist on the classic spiral staircase, and you can tell by looking at it that the designer had a lot of fun creating it.

It was built in 2004 by artist Olafur Eliasson, and it’s on display in Munich outside an office building. It’s called Umschreibung (Rewriting), and the staircase trip up is 9 meters (29.5 feet). The question I keep asking myself after looking at this is…why? Why would someone create such an elaborate staircase that defies all reason for why a staircase is usually built in the first place? I don’t know what the answer is, but I wouldn’t mind taking a few trips up and down that thing. I have a feeling you could get real dizzy real fast.

This spiral staircase masterpiece isn’t the only work of art Olafur Eliasson is known for. If I worked in this office building below, I would probably eat lunch outside every day so I could take a few strolls up and down this badboy. I bet that would be some good mid-day exercise.
