Little People: Tiny Art Installations To Inspire You

It seems like one of the trends in photography now is taking pictures of anything that is itty-bitty. Microscope photography has gotten a lot of attention in the past year, and that is really when I remember this trend starting.

It seems people everywhere like to take pictures of small things. Whether it’s a dead fly, tiny plastic people, drops of alcohol, or even spores of pollen, it’s all very interesting to look at. It seems there is a whole other world within our world, and we can see it if we just view our environment through a different lens.

London based photographer Slinkachu knows this all too well. He sets up his mini-art installations on streets all over the world, and photographs them. He started this “Little People Project” by painting tiny model train set characters and positioning them in interesting settings outside. His motivation for this was to encourage people in the city to be more aware of their surroundings. This is part art project, part photography project and all creative. It reminds me very much of Jan Vormann who also invites people in the city to check out the world around them by repairing buildings with colorful Lego bricks. Another way to view the small world around us is through the eyes of Ben Wilson. He travels all over Europe to paint chewing gum that is stuck to the sidewalks. I could go on and on… It’s all very inspiring to me; I love it!
