So That’s Why It Looks Different: McDonald’s Food Photo Shoot

This is one of those things you will remember reading about every time you go through the drive-thru of Mickey Dees for a long time. We all know that when we see an advertisement for a fast food burger, it never looks the same as the actual burger we get. Sometimes we gobble it down too quickly to notice, but what we get in the bag someone hands us out that drive-thru window is a lot different than what is advertised (even on the menu).

Richard touched on this a while back in an article called Advertised Fast Food Compared To The Real Deal. The pictures in that article are hilarious and true. The pitiful little burgers we actually get are so funny compared to what the ads look like.

Then again, I guess it’s called fast food for a reason, so maybe it should all make sense. I’m glad that today I get to show you a behind the scenes look at what a real McDonald’s food photo shoot looks like. You get to see how the food stylists carefully build the burger so that it looks perfect for the photographs. Watch how they smooth the edges of the cheese, squirt the ketchup on with a syringe, and touch it all up with software. Every single detail is considered. This is so interesting to me, and it makes me more forgiving about the discrepancies. I mean, at least now we know they are using real food for those pictures. Sometimes they look so different, and I was starting to wonder about that.
