There has been a lot of focus on ‘real beauty’ over the past few years, and hopefully more women are starting to feel confident about their natural beauty. There is nothing wrong with glamorous makeup of course, but when a woman thinks she’s not beautiful without it, well, that’s not good. There is a lot to appreciate and respect in a face with no makeup. For a woman who is used to wearing a lot of makeup, showing the world her natural face can be like standing naked in front of a crowd.
Just last month Dove pulled a Photoshop prank (or hack) which went viral. You can read about it here on Ad Week. Even as recently as a few days ago, singer Demi Lovato tweeted a picture of her face with no makeup. Her tweet read, “Ladies, be brave today… take off your makeup and stop using those filters!! WE are beautiful!!!”
It seems Barbie is getting on the ‘face with no makeup’ bandwagon too. Designer Eddi Aguirre redesigned Barbie as if it was a Saturday afternoon, and she was hanging out at home with no makeup. She looks natural, and that includes freckles, frizzy hair and braces. In one of the pictures below, you can see the before and after. This proves that even Barbie isn’t perfect all the time, and in our imperfection is beauty itself.
Although she could use a little under-eye cream, I think Barbie is more beautiful without all that makeup. She looks more youthful, and more like a real person. Which version of her do you like better? Can you imagine if this ‘natural Barbie’ was sold in stores? The ‘natural Barbie’ would probably drive a hybrid car instead of a convertible. She would also probably drink beer and wear sneakers. This is fun to write about, and I could go on and on…
