I seem to be on a Mario kick today, but there’s nothing wrong with that, right? Mario is everyone’s favorite plumber, and he will probably continue to be a form of retro inspiration for artists and designers for many years to come. This particular design is very unique though. I’m not an experienced enough artist to know what this technique is called, but it’s like a pixelated Mario created with blocks. It’s abstract enough to make you look twice, but then you immediately see the image is very clearly Mario.
I wish I had more information about how this was made exactly. It’s digital art as opposed to a photograph of an actual sculpture. It’s sold as a poster printed on semi-gloss paper and printed with professional pigment ink instead of a dye based ink which fades. It was created by Etsy member DirtyGreatPixelsUK, and it sells for about $32. You can get a 10% discount by “Liking” his Facebook page. What a great way to increase Facebook fans by the way.
If you are a big fan of Mario and his family like we are, you might also like seeing this Mario Redesigned In Graffiti and this Mario Created With Salt (yeah, like the salt you eat). Oh, and you can learn how to throw the most badass Mario birthday party here. Is that enough for you, or are you hungry for more? The Internet love for Mario just goes on and on and on…
