When I was at Target the other day, I noticed that now there are two types of Barbies on the shelves: Ones with boob jobs and ones without. I couldn’t believe it. I just stood there staring at those Barbie dolls with a swirling mix of emotions.
I thought everything from “Dang it, now you have an even better body” to “I’m glad I have a son, because having a daughter these days must be tough.” I came home and tweeted about my experience and the responses I received from my followers were mostly cute and cheeky.
Then today I read here that there are 3 Barbie dolls sold every second in more than 150 countries. Wow! You can understand why I was inspired to share this Barbie body part art with you. According to her website, Margaux Lange’s Plastic Body Series art jewelry collection utilizes salvaged Barbie doll parts. She has been creating work in this series for almost ten years. Margaux says, “Whether you love her or hate her, there are few who feel neutral about the plastic princess.” I agree with that statement.
You will notice below that Margaux uses all the body parts, even those infamous boobs.
It’s kind of fun to see Barbie all broken apart like this.
See, Barbie, you aren’t so perfect after all! ;)
Thank you for the great pic of Margaux! http://www.thisblogrules.com
