A couple days ago Richard wrote an interesting article showcasing some ridiculously cute, totally bizarre origami dresses. If you missed that article, you can check it out here. As fun as they were, one thing I noticed in all those pictures is that the girls are missing shoes. I mean, if you are going to go all out and wear that kind of dress, you need some kick ass origami shoes to go with it, right?
What I learned when I went looking for some origami shoes for those girls is that there are two different distinct types. The first type is made out of paper and considered art. They are not to be worn. The second type are “origami inspired” shoes that you can wear, but they are couture so they will cost you a fortune. Either way, they are stunning.
First, I’ll show you the paper origami shoes. These are created by French artist Mathieu Missiaen, and they are not for sale. If you would like to try your hand at making some paper origami shoes, here is a link to DIY.
Next, I’ll show you an artist that creates origami inspired shoes. This is critically acclaimed designer Marloes ten Bhomer. These shoes (below) are couture and will cost you dearly (over $2,000). They sure are interesting to look at!
Last but not least is another designer that creates origami inspired shoes. Her name is Catherine Meuter and wow; she has added a very creative spin to her shoes. These are very interesting because they are made from one piece of leather that is folded into a shoe. You buy them and put them together yourself. From what I’ve read, they are very comfortable.
