This is a good geek test. If you look at this project and think “Why would anyone ever want to take the time to transform a Nintendo 64 into a handheld console?” you might not be a hardcore geek. If you look at this and drool all over yourself like baby, well, there you go.
I have a feeling that the blogger behind Slightly Warped did this just because he or she could, and that’s a good enough reason for me. Of course, I wouldn’t want to take my original Nintendo 64 and do this, but if I had an extra one around the house, I might give it a go. I wonder how long it took to complete this process, and where the inspiration came from.
Unfortunately, on the original post, there isn’t a text tutorial. However, it’s documented step-by-step in photographs, and I’ve put a small sampling of those below. If you’d like to see the entire project from start to finish, just click over to the website. I remember playing this exact 007 game for a ridiculous number of hours many years ago. I also remember everyone back then saying it was such a violent game, which makes me laugh now. It’s funny how our perception of things, and games in general, change over time. If you want to see another very nice Nintendo 64 mod, check out this Star Wars Tie Fighter Game Console.
