Funkadelic Facts About Infographics

I read somewhere once that an infographic is worth 1,000 words. It’s true. Why are infographics so popular? I’m seeing them everywhere, more and more. We’ve even started using them a lot here on Bit Rebels. There must be a reason for it, right? Why this sudden interest in graphics that provide information?

As I often do when I ask myself these questions, I went on a mad dash to find out everything I could about the topic. People love infographics because if they are designed well, they are clever, cute and provide valuable information. Our brain can digest the facts presented on an infographic three times faster than reading it in text since it’s an illustrated format. According to Google, people’s interest in infographics skyrocketed worldwide in 2009, and it shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.

You can understand why many sites now are devoted to presenting infographics. I think the simplest explanation of this I found was on Street Couch. They explain it as a five-step process: Create a badass infographic, send it out via social media, have bloggers post it with a link to your site (provide the embed code), gain authority in the eyes of Google, Profit. That may be a little over simplified, but you get the idea. It’s all about building traffic and providing killer infographics is great link building strategy.

Have you thought about creating your own infographics? You can find them on almost any topic these days. There are truly no limits to the possibilities. I found a really cool article for you that features 10 Awesome Free Tools To Make Infographics, this one that provides some Themes For A Good Infographic and this last one with Infographic Resources. Below are a couple cheeky infographics about infographics. Keep in mind these are sarcastic and just for fun. I wouldn’t take much of the info on these particular infographics seriously, but then again, that’s probably obvious!
