Do you remember your most awesome teacher? The one who dressed up in costume, entered the room with an electric guitar and some grooving vocals, and proceeded to lead the class in a thrash metal anthem?
Me neither.
It might be for the better. I was never good at listening to music and studying at the same time. Unfortunately for me, my brain can only take in one thing at a time, and that is usually the music. Eighties and nineties music may be the reason that my knowledge of certain time periods is terribly rusty.
Whether your memories of history class are hazy and fading like mine, or whether you have a history class coming up next week, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know much about history. If you know Bad Romance, Tainted Love, and Money, Money, Money, you’re all set. While you might think that your modern musical knowledge won’t help you ace Monday’s history test, you’re wrong. You obviously haven’t listened to History for Music Lovers.
Amy Burvall’s history teacher channel on YouTube takes the rocking great hits of the near past and melds them with history. All sorts of history. So you can rock out to pop music and study at the same time. Joan of Arc, Napoleon, Cleopatra, and even The Black Death all have their own songs. Tainted Love? Well, that’s The Trojan War, of course.
Now, the songs running through your head can help you remember the key events in history. And I’m not just talking about the release of I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred. Listen to the history teachers’ channel and you’ll be humming The Trojan War all day, baby!
