If you are a fan of The Muppet Show, you are going to love this. Lance Cardinal, a student in Vancouver British Columbia, created this scratch built Muppet Theatre Playset that blows my mind. He was inspired by Palisades Toy Company. Palisades is a company that went bankrupt several years ago, and as a result, didn’t finish their much anticipated Muppet Theatre Backstage Playset.
Instead of letting the disappointment get him down, Lance decided to pick up where they left off and create something better than I’m sure they would have ever been able to make. I cannot even imagine the countless hours this project took. You can obviously tell it’s a labor of love, and the detail and aesthetics are spectacular. Lance did not overlook anything in his quest to make this as authentic as possible.
As you see in the pictures below, the floorboards are maple wood, and everything is hand crafted. There is a cool side panel, main drop ropes, locks, hooks and magnets. He even added fly rails with eyelets to make it all look real. There is a trap door in the floor and dramatic lighting. Lance thought of every single detail, and even used paint that matches a Muppet Movie. Believe it or not, Lance is not finished with this series yet! He plans to create a musicians pit, box seats for Statler and Waldorf, Fozzie’s comedy backdrop, Miss Piggy’s dressing room, and much more.
You can view many more photographs, get more information, and follow Lance’s project on Lance Cardinal. He will also be adding a post about how exactly he made this. Lance, I hope you know how fabulous this is. You’ve truly added new life to the Muppet world, and I’m sure that Jim Henson would be very proud! Congratulations on your achievement! Thank you Sue Ross for sharing this with me.
