Retro Gaming Decor: The Geeky Donkey Kong Wall Shelf

If you love retro gaming from the ’80s as much as we do, you are going to love this very geeky, very creative and very nostalgic Donkey Kong wall shelf. Whether you played Donkey Kong in the arcades back in the day, on your Game Boy or even on Mario Kart or some other Mario spin-off recently, you know he’s a big, happy gorilla who loves bananas. The creation of the Donkey Kong character was inspired by Popeye, Beauty and the Beast and even King Kong.

Haven’t you ever wondered what happened to those steel beams from Donkey Kong now that the original game is long gone? So many of us have spent countless hours running on that famous Donkey Kong path, and it seems sad to just let that fade away when their might be another way we could incorporate it into our lives. Igor Chak, a designer and vintage game lover, had the same thought. He didn’t want to let Donkey Kong’s playground get stored away in the digital world, so he brought it out into our real world. He went to work on creating this fine piece of retro gaming geekery that I would love to display in my own home.

He calls this the Donkey Kong Wall, and according to his website, “The wall is made out of individual sections. Each section is made out of durable but light carbon fiber. Anodized aluminum pixels are joined with strong stainless steel rods and toughened glass tops.” Each shelf can support up to 60 pounds. Now for the sad news…As far as I know, these are not available for sale. Boo-hoo. For me though, even just looking at the pictures is enough to make me smile. It’s like taking a walk back in time to the world of ’80s arcades which seemed so relevant and important to us then, but now we just simply refer to it all as “retro gaming.”
