It’s hard to find anyone today who doesn’t know what Super Mario Bros. is. The impact Nintendo has had on our lives is apparent as soon as you start looking at all the games that are available today. The retrofication of games has reached a level of insanity. Just look at Minecraft for example, which is now boasting a ridiculous 11 million sales. Take that into consideration and then look at these Super Mario levels recreated on animal skulls, and you’ll get an idea of its importance.
These sculptures come from the fandom mind of Tobias Wüstefeld who decided to include his Super Mario levels in the “8bit Artshow” in Vienna. The detail is incredible even though the accuracy might not be the best when you start looking at the level design of the actual and original Super Mario levels. But what does that matter when you are able to look at these awesome creations with a bit of retro adventuring going on within your mind, right?
The sculptures may be created out of animal skulls, but that surely doesn’t take away from the colorful and magnificent way Nintendo decided to create this platformer game. It makes me want to try and save the princess once again in the original Super Mario game on the NES. Even though it might look like there are a lot of different sculptures presented here, it’s actually just two that are photographed from several different angles. That is another thing that makes these Super Mario levels so fantastically great.
I have to say though, the best part of these two Super Mario levels is actually the magic retained in every piece of detail added onto these skulls. Not only do they inspire you to play Super Mario, but they also kick alive that retroness you sometimes feel when you see things from your past that you were once almost embarrassingly attached to. Do you know what I mean? Behold the most retrofied Super Mario levels ever created.
