Sometimes the world can be a cruel and harsh place to live in, especially if you are an animal that constantly has to battle disasters that us humans seem to unleash on the world. The fact that we even have animals left is sometimes a miracle when you think about it. We have been able to pollute pretty much every single natural resource at our disposal, and all we do to fix it is take some plaster and patch it up so we can’t see it anymore; however, the wound is still present underneath. One of the most hazardous man-made disasters must be the constant oil spills leaking into the ocean.
When a recent event made yet another puddle of the black goo leak into the crystal clear water for the penguins in New Zealand, the world had had enough. It was a heartbreaking catastrophe for the wildlife in the area, and a local yarn store called Skeinz decided to make things a little easier for the flightless penguins. They sent out a call to all the knitters around the world to send knitted sweaters for these poor souls to warm them after the ordeal.
People’s hearts responded, and sweater after sweater was sent in to aid the bone chilled birds. So, nowadays if you visit this particular area in New Zealand, you will be able to see the clothed penguins walking around feeling all snugly and heated. Once again, mankind comes to the rescue after the greedy ones make a mess. Empathy must be the best invention ever, especially when things go belly up for the ones who didn’t cause what is now breaking down their natural habitat. How can you not get all mushy inside after seeing this?
