LEGO is one company that has allowed people of all ages to be creative while playing. I am sure at one point almost everyone has created something with the colorful LEGO bricks. Spaceships, houses, buildings, cars, trucks, anything that you can imagine has probably been built with LEGO. Even builds with moving parts have been created with another more advanced type of LEGO called the LEGO Technic. Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to make anything with LEGO Technic. However, a guy named Andrew Carol, who is an Apple Software Engineer, created a replica of the Antikythera Mechanism using 1,500 pieces of LEGO Technic.
The Antikythera Mechanism is an ancient mechanical computer that was designed to compute astronomical positions. The device’s true purpose was for people to be able to predict celestial events and eclipses with unprecedented accuracy. Andrew Carol created a replica of the device with LEGO parts that is fully functional. I have included the video of the amazing creation, which explains how each part works. In the end, it tells us when the next eclipse will be. See for yourself and be amazed.
