8,000 Transparent LEGO Pieces Create Geeky Yet Elegant Chandelier

We are all used to seeing playful LEGO builds made from LEGO pieces that are creatively put together into extravagant installations. So, it’s a bit mind-boggling to see something that looks so elegant and sophisticated that’s also made from LEGO bricks. What you see in the pictures below is a massive, geeky chandelier that was created from transparent LEGO bricks. In the pictures, it looks like a fancy light fixture that you might see in a hotel lobby or corporate conference room.

This chandelier made from LEGO pieces was created by Tobias Tostesen. He hand-placed each of the 8,000 LEGO bricks himself, and I’m sure it took an extraordinary amount of time and patience. It’s a massive structure that is described as being a floor-to-ceiling installation. It looks like it would be lightweight since the LEGO pieces are made out of plastic. I couldn’t find how much it weighs, but judging from how it was transported (see the pic below), it’s heavier than you might think.

He created curved modules with the LEGO pieces so they would reflect light in the most beautiful way. It displays the day light and the evening light differently and eloquently, just like a chandelier should. You can see the photo with his schematic drawings below.

Tobias created this geeky wonder for Milan Design Week 2013, and it’s not for sale anywhere. If it was, I’m sure someone would buy it quickly. It would be perfect for the entrance way into a geeky tech company or any office that wants to add some LEGO inspiration for their employees and clients. I’d even put this in my house. If you want to see another unusual chandelier, check out this Gummy Bear Chandelier that we featured several years ago. To this day, it’s one of my favorites.
