Color

Rule: the more colorless a diamond, the higher its market price is going to be.

The diamond scale rates diamonds ranging from a D-rating, completely colorless, all the way down to a Z-rating, where the fancy colors begin to show. Colorless diamonds that fall within the D-F range, are the rarest diamonds to find, and as such, come with the highest premium. Stones of this rating have no chance of changing or losing their color, so it will not be turning yellow or dulling any time at all. The only color change that will be found is one that is done purposefully.

Clarity

Rule: the number of imperfections a diamond has, impacts the value of the diamond.

Clarity is an important factor regarding the sparkle of any diamond. Love & Promise Jewelers sell the majority of their diamonds with a clarity rating of between SI1 and SI12. An inclusion in a stone refers to any material that may have been trapped inside a diamond during its formation and does interfere with the light reflecting off each facet. For diamonds with minimal eye-visible imperfections, a rating of SI1 or higher is recommended for stones that are more than one carat, while an SI12 rating is good enough for stones that are ¾ carat or less.

Cut

Rule: Angles that are cut to perfection, give a diamond its most beautiful sparkle.

The cut of a diamond is what gives it its world-renowned sparkle, and is an important aspect of what determines a diamond’s brilliance. Angles that are cut perfectly give a diamond that trademark sparkle and these cuts range in scale from poor, fair, good, and very good, to excellent. Recommendations from Love and Promises Jewelers insist on a diamond that is a very good to excellent cut, being if the belief that a premium cut is of the utmost importance.

Carat

Rule: The larger the stone, the more expensive it is going to be per carat.

Carat refers to simply to the weight of a stone and has absolutely nothing to do with its size. Measurements for a diamond are taken in millimeters, and although some stones may all look the same size, their value is determined by their weight. Smaller stones may just prove to be denser, and thus more carat’s than their bigger, more bulky counterparts.

Choosing the perfect diamond is not like writing a book, and with these simple C’s making the right choice is going to be easier than ever. Remember that bigger is not always better, and when it comes to diamonds, that is most certainly the case.
