There are things we can do to feel young, like blowing bubbles, sledding down a hill of snow, or riding a slide. The fun of slides used to be associated with kids, but now that some innovative companies are incorporating them into their office designs, adults are recapturing their youth with the magic of slides. Imagine taking the slide instead of the elevator to deliver a report to a co-worker. Sounds like fun, right? This apartment design takes that concept further and explores what it would be like to have a house slide.
The incredible stainless steel house slide you see below is incorporated into a New York apartment that has 4 levels. It starts in the attic and goes all the way down. Along the way (at a bedroom entrance on the 3rd level), there is a chance to get off the slide and into the house, or the person riding in it can just keep going all the way down to the main level.
If the person on the slide takes the ride all the way to the end, he or she will be able to climb off at the base of the staircase near the home’s entrance. There is a window on the slide, which lets natural light in from the other nearby windows in the home.
This house slide was created by a collaborative effort between architect David Hotson and designer Ghislaine Vinas. The overall project is called SkyHouse. Of course, in order to build a house slide that is even close to this magnitude, you’d have to have a house with multiple levels. But just imagine for a moment…wouldn’t this be a dream come true? You would feel forever young and enjoy a playground inside your home in the form of a fabulous house slide.
