How To: Be Alone and Be Happy

This is my 660th article on Bit Rebels. I’ve had a blast writing every single one of them. Many of those articles feature unique artists that I find inspiring. Many times those artists that view the world just a tiny bit differently than the rest of us are the ones that can inspire us to become better people. They show us that it’s ok to think a different way or take an unpopular road.

Out of all those articles though, I think this is the first time I’m writing about a poet. This very well done poem, illustrated in the video below, really resonates with me since I spend a lot of time alone.

I work primarily from home, and some weeks there are two or three days in a row when I don’t leave my house. It’s like this is my little cocoon. I have my Twitter to keep me company if I start to feel lonely. For the most part though, I love those long stints of time when I’m alone. I am a very independent person, and I am never bored. I have so many thing that I want to create in this lifetime, so I’m always working on something.

For some people though, being alone is really tough. I have friends that have really struggled with it a lot. Society doesn’t really celebrate being alone, and for some people, it can be almost unbearable. However, when I’m alone, I don’t feel disconnected. As a matter of fact, to me, it feels very carefree and limitless. If you are happy in your heart, realize there is nothing wrong with being alone!

This video was just posted on YouTube a few days ago and already has over 338,000 views (at time of publishing). It features the very inspirational poetry of singer/songwriter Tanya Davis. The video was created by the talented filmmaker Andrea Dorfman. If you spend a lot of time alone, this will surely speak to you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
