How To: Mend A Broken Heart

People have been coming up to me and telling me how much strength I have. Well, to be quite honest, I am just like any other person who has gone through a lot of pain.

The reason for my writing this is because after a meeting today, someone asked about my fiancee. I had no choice but to tell her what had happened. She started crying, and it was quite funny cause I ended up consoling her in the process. I believe that having a broken heart is one of the most painful emotions that anyone can endure. It somehow leaves a big hole in our heart.

The way I look at it, you can only really do two things: One is to just give up and drown in your sorrows. The other is to be positive and try to look at the beauty of life, see what you still have around you and be with the people that care for you. I cannot say that I am totally okay, there are still days when I will just stare blankly at my computer or a wall. Other days I just suddenly break down and cry. However, here are some of the things that have really helped me overcome some of the sadness:

1. Be with people you love – We can really draw strength and courage from family and wonderful friends. The kind words, prayers and hugs (IRL or virtual) truly help. It lets us know that we are not alone.

2. Keep yourself busy – An idle mind is quite dangerous. I like keeping myself busy. I make sure that after I give into bouts of uncontrollable sobbing, I try to find my center and get back to being myself again. It is, of course, easier said than done. You can take a break if you need to, or just try to live normally one day at a time.

3. Do not keep it bottled up inside – This is the most effective way of coping with sadness and grief. Letting out what you feel instead of keeping it inside is a healthy way of release. We can either talk to our friends or family. Or we can do things like write. I am so glad I have a venue to share my thoughts and feelings. If you do not have a blog, you can write it in a personal journal. Who knows, one way or another, your experience can help another person cope.

Everything that happens to us happens for a reason. We may not know it yet, but in time it will be revealed to us. In time, everything will make sense. This post is dedicated to all the wonderful people who never fail to encourage and inspire me to move on and continue to live and be grateful for all that I have today. As a reader once put it, I’m forever changed, but fundamentally the same. I would like to share a beautiful song with you, our dear readers. I hope you like it, and thank you. You all make the journey easier!

My favorite part of the song goes –

Every choice you make
when you’re lost
Every step you take
has its cause

After you clear your eyes
you see the light
somewhere in the darkness
After the rain has gone
you feel the sun come
And though it seems your sorrow never ends
Someday it’s gonna make sense…
