Wearable computers have been a trend since mid 2012, and these days, you can find a wearable computer that can track just about anything. If successful crowdfunding campaigns are any indication of the upcoming trends, these types of computers and head-mounded displays are going to continue to gain popularity. There’s no question that Google Glass has inspired a whole new generation of wearable computers.
This particular mod might not be very practical, but it’s a gorgeous specimen of what’s possible when you combine 3D printing with a Pi. It’s called Raspberry Pi Glass (obviously inspired by Google Glass), and it was created by Domestic Hacks. This Pi Glass has a steampunk feel to it, and it’s truly a work of art.
If you would like to make this for yourself, you can find all the instructions here on Thingiverse. It’s an advanced project of course, but if you have access to a 3D printer, a Pi and a chunk of time, it would be worth it. This wearable computer has a 3D printed wristband with a Bluetooth keyboard and analog wristwatch. I wish there was a video so we could see it in action, but as of now, I don’t think there is one.
This isn’t the first time someone has built a wearable computer from a Raspberry Pi. You can check out a mod that is a bit less sophisticated here on Geeknizer. The Raspberry Pi itself is such an inspiring little piece of tech. I recently received the new one, which has a lot more memory. The Raspbmc image is amazing. Just a few days ago, I posted a picture of what it looks like on Google+. I love my Pi, and if you love yours too, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this Raspberry Pi Glass wearable computer.
