Did you know that you can save a lot of money by buying refurbished electronics instead of new? It’s true and most of the time you will be able to get the same model that you were interested in. Not many people seem to know this and keep buying new even though the price sometimes is too much for their wallet to handle.
So what can you expect from refurbished electronics and is there a downside to it? Well, not really. If we take refurbished smartphones, for example, there is no reason to pay full price for something when you can get the same smartphone for a better price, right? That is at least what most people seem to think.
Spending your hard earned cash on a new smartphone model can set you back at least $700.00-$1,000.00 for the newer models of iPhone. By finding a place that sells refurbished phones you can actually buy the same model for up 30%-50% cheaper. It’s insane really. You just have to find the right place and you can sort through their products and get exactly what you want.
Refurbished electronics as a business model is great for customers and it’s an option that is starting to really make sense to people. It’s said that Apple’s new iPhone X model costs $357.00 to manufacture and you, as a customer, are paying over $1,000.00 for it. Wouldn’t you rather pay $500.00-$650.00 for the same model of smartphone and not feel completely cheated out of your money?
I recently did some research and if we just take a look at the storage in an iPhone, then it comes down to a pretty hefty charge if you want to pick up a 128 GB model instead of a 16 GB model. As a matter of fact, it’s a difference of $100.00-$150.00. What most people don’t know is that the price difference between the models, in raw manufacturing terms, is really just $25.00. You are paying Apple a profit of at least $75.00 just to have more storage space.
So, what does refurbished really mean? It’s quite simple. It’s old electronics that have been restored to something that resembles new. When someone buys a new phone, for example, they usually don’t need the old one anymore. Some people sell it to a company that refurbishes electronics and get a bit of extra cash for it.
When the company later refurbishes the old smartphone they make sure the components are as good as they can get and they also clear and destroy all the data on the smartphone to make sure you have a clean install once you boot it up.
When the smartphone is later purchased by a customer, the phone is as good as new, well, as close to new as it can possibly get and it’s way cheaper than a completely new one.
As you can see, choosing a refurbished smartphone (or any other kind of electronic device) over a new one basically means you will get it at a better rate and still get exactly what you want. To most people, it’s a no-brainer and is the way to go.
There are a few companies out there that sell refurbished smartphones and most of them, of course, have a website. One of the best ones that we know of is MyWiT and they have a lot of great deals to choose from.
However, some people still think that buying refurbished electronics is a bad thing, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Not only will it save you money and still get you what you want, but it is also the environmentally aware way to purchase a new smartphone or any other kind of electronics.
Buying a refurbished smartphone also makes you feel a whole lot better as you will know you are not paying a huge markup to get what you want.
