Prosthetics technology has come a long way since the bulky and clunky wooden limbs once worn by amputees. Today, thanks to 3D printing and advancements in technology, advanced prosthetics can be created on a low budget. The cool thing is that with so many advancements in technology, people are now able to choose what their prosthetics should look like. Not too long ago we saw a prosthetic arm inspired by the Metal Gear Solid video game, and now another operator on the market has announced that they will be creating prosthetic arms inspired by Deus Ex, the popular video game.
The initiative is a collaboration between Open Bionics (specialist in low-cost prosthetics), Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal and together they are going to develop prosthetic arms inspired by the bionic prosthetic limbs presented in Deus Ex. It’s a collaboration that should grab anyone’s attention as we can be sure the prosthetics will not only look good but will sport the coolest and most cutting edge technology available on the market.
Initially, two prosthetic arms will be developed and made available royalty-free (open source) on the market. The first one is based on the bionic arm worn by Adam Jensen, the hero of Mankind Divided. While the Adam Jensen prosthetic arm will be more detailed, the second one, called The Titan, will be more stylized with sharp, geometric shapes and angles. Both prosthetic arms will be colored in a gunmetal gray and gold color to reflect the true awesomeness of the video game’s augmented superhero. The two arms will be made available sometime next year.
So far, there is no mention of the price, but considering that they are developed by Open Bionics, who create low-cost prosthetics, perhaps they won’t be too expensive.
Open Bionics has previously created prosthetic arms inspired by Iron Man, Frozen, and Star Wars. However, these look infinitely more advanced. We can all hope they will live up to the awesome pictures and videos now circulating on the Internet. We will keep a close eye on the development, and as soon as we have any other updates, we will be sure to report them back to you. In the meantime, check out these almost unearthly prosthetic limbs.
