To live a good life we all know that saving should be applied in most areas of life. Some may argue that saving money is the most important; however, saving is universal and will almost always lead to a better lifestyle. When it comes to energy, saving could impact your lifestyle in a huge and positive way. Not only because you’re saving money, but because you’re making the world a better place as well. It’s important to recognize that the ways you can save energy are almost unlimited if you are prepared to put the effort into doing the research.

We decided that taking a closer look at this area would be beneficial to all of us, so we set out to find ways you can save energy in your home without changing the way you live your life. We reached out to EnergyAustralia, and they supplied us with a great infographic that will help you save energy through some really clever yet simple ways.

Most household costs are almost unavoidable; utilities included. Unless you have your own renewable energy source, or adopt a more Paleolithic approach to living; paying for electricity and gas is part of the daily grind. Electricity rates rarely decrease, so following a few energy saving tips can prevent too much worry when the next quarterly bill hits the inbox.

Air Conditioning Options

There are two types of air conditioners that are considered to be a complete room temperature control solution; namely evaporative heating and refrigerated cooling. Evaporative cooling draws warm air over wet pads, cooling as it goes. Refrigerated Cooling uses internal and external units that move warm moist air out of the room, producing cool air. Figures from leading energy suppliers state that Evaporate Coolers can use up to 80% less energy than their refrigerated counterparts. A great way to save energy.

Energy Saving Lighting

The light bulbs around your home could be either saving you cents or helping you spend them. Compact Fluorescent Lamps use 80% less energy, and LED lights use around 90% less power than a traditional bulb. Energy providers recommend making the switch to help you save energy instantaneously.

Stand By And Idle

Setting a computer or mobile device to enter standby mode when not in use can save 60% of the electricity it would be guzzling when the screen is brightly shining. If you keep forgetting to hit ‘shut down’ during long periods of non-use, stand by is essential to saving power for all energy-hungry devices. In addition, turning off appliances at the wall can save an additional 10% on electricity costs. This is something that most people don’t think about, but could greatly save energy and money.

Other Appliances

Older appliances are generally less energy efficient. This especially applies to fridges, which can be around 40% less efficient if over ten years old. Similarly, washing machines are more efficient if of a front loader design as top loading machines use up to 60% more water, which of course has a direct effect on the electricity needed to heat the water.

There are so many home devices which can be cheaply utilized to save energy, and every little bit helps. Everything from efficient shower heads to draft excluders, many accessories can be cheaply purchased to help keep the dollars firmly in your pocket and of course save energy.

Most energy providers are doing their bit to promote more efficient energy usage, such as EnergyAustralia who produced the infographic below. Check it out for some more tips on saving energy around the home.
