We are all familiar with the classic pin-up girl pictures. We’ve seen them in retro Coca-Cola ads and in calendars and posters from way back when. I always think those photographs are so interesting, and there is a lot to learn about what life was like in those days by just looking at them. We’ve even written about the real life models behind those classic pin-up images and some killer 2D pin-up paintings. They just never get old.
It seems that Rion Sabean noticed the popularity of pin-up girls, and he decided to create his own spin on the classic style we all know. They are called men-ups, and they are his take on the man version of pin-ups. This is such a funny spoof, and I can’t stop giggling.
The brain twisting part of these is that in classic pin-ups, the woman is considered sexy. I just don’t get a sexy feel from these photographs, but I don’t think that is the point. The point is to switch the gender roles a little, and I love it. It’s cute and charming. To make this even more authentic in a pin-up kind of way, Rion, who is a student at the University of South Florida, is selling 2012 calendars with these images starting at $25. You can purchase one of those by visiting his store. Very nice!
