Papercraft builds remind me a lot of Lego builds in the sense that some artists gravitate towards huge monstrosities that you can’t help but stare at, and other artists focus more on minimalist creations that are small enough to fit in your pocket. One thing is for sure, bigger doesn’t always mean better, and each build is as creative as the next.
I remember when I wrote about this life-size papercraft Link from Zelda which was created from hundreds of pieces of paper. Today I’d like to share with you a travel size papercraft creation whose pieces can all be printed on only one piece of paper. This is perfect to store in a mint tin and give to the kids for those long car rides.
Joel Henriques, a stay-at-home Dad and part-time artist, created a Paper City Paris last summer. The collection contains several famous monuments and tourist attractions in Paris, along with some people, a car, and a few other goodies. Since then, he decided it would be fun to make a travel size version that kids could play with at restaurants and while on vacation.
He basically took his larger version and scaled it way down. Surprisingly, he said the smaller version was even easier to make than the large one. This would be a great art project for a children’s arts and crafts class at school. It wouldn’t even use much paper.
