All of us are so full of advice, and we usually give it out when we probably shouldn’t, right? One of my favorite songs from 2011 is by Sara Bareilles, and it’s called “King of Anything.” She says she wrote that song to everyone who has ever given her advice (usually bad advice), when she didn’t ask for it.
What if someone gave you a piece of paper and a pencil and asked you to write down one piece of advice you would give the next generation? What would you write? Suddenly giving advice doesn’t flow so freely, does it? There are so many ways to answer that question, and thinking of just one sentence or one phrase doesn’t seem like enough. People write whole books on that topic.
The Say Something Poster Project asks that very question. For the second year in a row, they are running a contest where designers can submit posters with a message for the next generation. The winning posters will be donated and hung at the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. You can see the whole selection of entries over on the website. I chose 12 to share with you here. My favorite one is the one that reads, “Adventure Is Where The Heart Is.” I have a very close friend who taught me that, and I’ll never forget it. What an inspiring project!
